ABOUT ABOUT

The Blue Ridge Music Center presents Amythyst Kiah live in concert in our spacious outdoor amphitheater at the base of Fisher Peak on The Blue Ridge Parkway, near Galax, VA, Mount Airy, NC and Sparta, NC.

The Tennessee-raised singer, songwriter, and musician brings her unforgettable voice and unique sound to the stage. Her musical style cuts across genres. She has experience playing in old-time and country bands in Tennessee, and her diverse musical tastes span the likes of pop icons like Micheal Jackson and Tori Amos, as well as classic country artists Jimmy Rogers and the Carter Family.

When combined with the transcendent quality of her voice, what emerges is an extraordinary vessel for Kiah’s musical expression and songwriting: a raw yet nuanced examination of grief, alienation, and the hard-won triumph of total self-acceptance. Her standout song “Black Myself” earned a Grammy nomination for Best American Roots Song and won Song of the Year at the 2019 Folk Alliance International Awards. With the debut Rounder Records release, Wary+Strange, she has toured in Europe and the United States, sharing her experiences through song.

The Foreign Landers are a unique transatlantic husband and wife folk duo. Mandolinist David Benedict grew up in South Carolina and banjoist Tabitha Agnew Benedict in Northern Ireland.  They share their beautifully honest and moving story with listeners and fans in their new album, Traveler’s Rest, named for their new hometown. Their authenticity and originality in songwriting is accompanied with the additional accolades such as receiving Instrumentalists of Year Momentum Awards from the International Bluegrass Music Association.
