The Blue Ridge Music Center presents John R. Miller live in concert at The Blue Ridge Music Center's outdoor amphtheater on The Blue Ridge Parkway (Milepost 213) just south of Galax, VA, just north of Mount Airy, NC, and just east of Sparta, NC.
John R. Miller is a guitarist, singer, and songwriter whose music has the earthy twang of country, the late-night feel of blues, and the road-worn defiance of rock & roll.
He grew up in a small community in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia. Starting with punk rock, he switched direction during a brief stint in college, discovering traditional West Virginia fiddle music, and taking an interest in folk and country singer-songwriters, such as John Prine, Steve Earle, and Townes Van Zandt.
Miller toured extensively with the bands The Fox Hunt and Prison Book Club, and was a sideman with the Hackensaw Boys, William Matheny & the Strange Constellations, and Locust Honey, before forming his own band. His latest recording on Rounder Records, Depreciated, was released in July 2021 to glowing accolades, including from roots music favorite Tyler Childers, who says Miller is “a well-traveled wordsmith mapping out the world he’s seen, three chords at a time.”
